Leicester 1st team match report
This week the first team hosted the final match of the first half against Hinckley 1. Market Harborough were missing their second and third string players through injury and with Hinckley close to the top of the league it was always going to be a tough match.
Northants captain, Simon Turner, was called up into the team and faced the talented but unfit Richard Jackson at number 5. With too many loose serves being despatched for winners and too many chances tinned Turner narrowly lost in straight games (11-8, 11-6, 11-9). At four Tim Arthur also lost in straight games as he was overpowered by Paul O’Hara’s aggressive game.
Mark Christison, as yet undefeated this season, continued his fine run with a 3-1 win over Dan Brown. The energetic Jack Turney also notched up another good win as he defeated Andy Beel by 3 games to 1.
With the match level things were not looking good for Harborough as Martin Geear at number 1 faced one of the county’s best players, Dan O’Hara. Although Geear was in with a chance of taking the second game O’Hara took the match 3-0 with some great defensive lobs and dominance in the centre of the court.
At the end of the first half the team can be pleased that with six wins out of nine matches they will be mid-table or better.
