Market Harborough Squash Club held its first Mixed Doubles Competition for 15 years, last week. The very attractive prize was dinner at Timo's restaurant in Market Harborough, donated by the restaurant.
Eight couples, partners were drawn at random, played a knockout format of best of three games. Some players had never played doubles before and had to quickly adapt to the different style of play needed from normal singles play. Interestingly, all the regular doubles players were drawn apart, which helped with the sorting out of rules and scoring for those that were less experienced!
Everyone enjoyed the challenge and there were no collisions!
The winners were Ruth Sleigh and Jon Maynard who beat Lyn Cherry and Nigel Lawton 2-1 in the final. All four finalists received vouchers for dinner at Timo's, presented by competition organiser Hilary Hearnshaw.
